Horse and Rider assessment

This is the same as an initial equine consultation with the addition of a ridden assessment to see how you and your horse might be affecting each other.

What to expect:

I travel to you so your horse is comfortable in a familiar environment. I do require a school or decent field in which to watch you ride.

We will start by having a chat about you and your horse and the symptoms he/she may be exhibiting or the things you are struggling with. I will ask a variety of questions to help me identify what treatment you and your horse may need. It is important for me to know any underlying health conditions or previous injuries so I can fully understand you and your horse and know what I can do to help.

I will then assess your horse while standing, walking and trotting in-hand before watching you ride in walk, trot and canter. I may ask you to perform any particular movements you may be having issues with. I will look at how your horse moves as well as what you are doing that influences that (positively or negatively!). I will then suggest an appropriate plan for you and your horse to enable you to both work in better harmony.

If chiropractic care is suitable for your horse we will discuss a treatment plan and, if you are happy, treatment will commence in that first visit.

If chiropractic care is suitable for you, I will suggest booking you in at one of the 2 clinics I work in for a more detailed assessment as well as treatment and/or exercise prescription. This is not included in the cost of the ridden assesment.

In the event I believe chiropractic treatment is not suitable for you or your horse, I will refer you to the GP or vet for further investigation and management.

Why book a ridden assesment?

Have you ever considered that you might be causing some of your horse's issues? Absolutely nobody is symmetrical. Not even Carl Hester or Charlotte Dujardin. We are all a little bit wonky and some of us are just more wonky than others! That doesn't mean there is nothing we can do about it.

Like with horses, conformation is different to posture. Yes you may have one leg longer than the other or one hip joint that is stiffer than the other (who doesn't?) but that doesn't mean we can't try and ride as balanced and symmetrically as we can to enable our horses to do their job to the best of their ability. Afterall, we do ask a lot of them when we want them to carry us on their backs out hacking, over fences and doing our dressage tests. Don't we owe it to them to be as easy to carry as possible?

Why not get you and your horse booked in for a ridden assessment?
